Webinar Series Overview:
Grants can provide essential resources for nonprofits to achieve their mission and
support their community. However, creating a grant proposal can be challenging,
especially for new organizations or inexperienced writers with limited resources.
During this three-part series, Pat Kelsaw, MSW will familiarize you with the grant writing
basics, so that you have the knowledge and tools needed to understand different forms
of grant funding and winning grants. It is designed for beginners!
Webinar Descriptions:
Session 1 - Grant Writing Basics
In this foundational session, Pat Kelsaw, MSW will present basic grant writing terms and
methods for making a strong case for programs or projects. She will provide planning
tools that can be customized and repeatedly used by organizations to save money,
time, and energy in grant seeking and writing.
What You’ll Learn:
- The essential sections that comprise at least 90% of all grant applications.
- How to navigate confusing grant-related terminology so that you understand what
the funder really wants, what’s behind the questions they’re asking you.
- Some tips on how to write each section.
- How the customizable planning tools, discussed in the next session will get your
organization grant-ready and will also help you begin to write and connect all the
elements of an application together!
Session 2 - Jump-Start Your Proposal Writing
During the second webinar, Pat will show you how to research funding opportunities and
develop the initial strategies needed – assess your organization’s readiness to craft a
successful grant application; including ways, a new organization or novice grant writer,
can be successful in obtaining grants.
You’ll learn:
- How to identify ideal funding opportunities and how to read the instructions to apply.
- The important strategies to implement before the grant instructions are even
released.
- The critical steps needed to write competitive proposals.
Session 3 - Building Your Capacity to Write Successful Grant Proposals
In the final session, Pat will cover the basics of writing successful grants. She will
provide practical tips and real examples to explain what grant reviewers seek.
You’ll learn:
- About the importance of networking and relationship building, and as a new
organization, how to find the “perfect” funders who could help you
- How to craft compelling grant proposals, and how AI can be used as a tool
- The common pitfalls to avoid in order to get funded
You’ll walk away from this series with invaluable & practical knowledge and strategies to
increase your organization’s grant success; and as a grant writer, increase your ability
to make a lasting impact as well as build your skills and income potential.
